Minutes: Buncombe Water District February 19, 1975, Presley Tours Building
Promptly at 4:00 P.M., the bids were opened by Mr. R. A. Nack. Two companies submitted bids on the Water Line, they were: L. D. Fern and Shawnee companies, both of Marion, Illinois. The L. D. Fern Company was the lower bid.
The bids on the Water Tank were also read by Mr. Nack. The four companies submitting bids were: Globe, Security, Caldwell and Pitsburg Des Moines. Some of the bidding companies had representatives present. After the bids were read they excused themselves.
The regular business meeting followed with Mr. Wayman Presley residing.
H. B. Hartline Sr. made a motion to buy a new water tank with a 100-thousand-gallon capacity for $111,111.00 dollars, as opposed to a used 75,000-thousand-gallon capacity for $75,000.00 dollars. The motion was seconded by C. R. Dusch. An individual vote was taken, with each trustee voting yes. Mr. Hammel of FHA sighted the difference, dollar and cent between the monies we have, and the additional money needed if we go with a new water tank. Another vote of the trustees (individually) was taken, each voting to buy a used tank of 100,000-thousand-gallon capacity for $95,000.00 dollars from the Security Tank and Tower Company. This contract bid being subject FHA and Engineer approval. The used tank taking priority, based on the monies we now have. If the used tank does not meet the required specifications, the board voted to give Mr. Hammel authority to ask for additional loan money, to buy the new tank to be purchased from the Globe Company.
The awarding contract of a base bid, minus alternates one (1), two (2), and three (3) to the L. D. Fern Construction Company was approved for the Water Line and Security Tank and Tower Company for the Tank. Each subject FHA and approval of the contracts, governed by description of said bid. The FHA will ask for additional loan monies of from $16,000.00 to $20,000.00 dollars if the used tank does not meet the desired specifications We have 90 days to accept the bid.
