Meeting Minutes of Emergency Meeting December 20, 1979
Chairman, Walter Brieschke called an emergency meeting on December 20, 1979 at Trustee Jackson’s residence. Meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m. Present at roll call: McCleland, Simpson, Jackson, Hastings, and Brieschke. John Nannie and Chilang Cottingham were also present.
A report was made out by the Chairman on two water breaks – Bluff Street and on a road southeast of town. Contractor Dean Bush was called to help fix the breaks but refused unless the district signs a contract designating his company as sole contractor for all district work. He left work site.
Chairman brought up two choices that district has at this time: 1. Dissolve 2. Raise the rates. Discussion on above topics and trustees present decided to try to solve the present crisis: getting the water breaks fixed so water servie can be restored to the customers affected. Calls were made by Trustee McCleland and Don Calhoun of Carbondale agreed to fix the leaks. He will be on site at 8:00 a.m. the next morning.
Motion by Hastings, seconded by Simpson: that the district look into the possibility of filing charges against the district engineers for faulty and negligent installation of water system. Vote: all members present voted yes, no nays. Motion carried.
Discussion on the possibility of getting a grant to help the water district. Simpson was asked and accepted to check with Paul Simon and his office on this.
Question of raising rates of again brought up. It was decided to wait until January meeting to discuss this issue.
Motion to adjourn by Hastings, seconded by McClelan. Vote: all members present voted yes, no nays. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 9:07p.m.
