Special Meeting Minutes of May 31, 1984

Meeting was called to order at 7:01 pm by Chairman Walter Brieschke.

Roll call: present were Mr. Douglas Mayer, Miss Phoebe Cox, Mr. James Simpson, Mr. Richard Parrish, Mr. Vern Cornell, and Mr. Walter Brieschke.

Bridge relocation: an engineer needs to be chosen to handle the water main relocation in downtown Makanda.

Water rate increase: South Highway water district plans to raise its rates to Buncombe.

IDOT notified Buncombe Water District that the main next to the bridge in downtown Makanda must be moved due to the bridge relocation project. IDOT will reimburse BPWD fully on all expenses incurred. Mr. Cornell made a motion to hire Asaturian and Eaton as the engineer for the water main relocation project. Mr. Mayer seconded. Roll call vote: Mr. Mayer – yes, Miss Cox – yes. Mr. Simpson – yes, Mr. Parrish – yes, Mr. Cornell – yes, Mr. Brieschke – yes. Motion passed.

Mr. Mayer and Mr. Brieschke were present for the South Highway Water District Board meeting on May 16, 1984. See attached report.

Customers present for the discussion were Mr. & Mrs. William Orthwein, Lucille Burrow, Marth Heern, Frances Youngblood, and James McEvers.

The board expressed concern at the large increase in water rates.

No action was taken.

Mr. Parrish made a motion to adjourn and Miss Cox seconded. All in favor voice vote. Meeting adjourned at 8:07 pm.
